What to Expect After Cataract Eye Surgery

If you or a loved one is getting cataract eye surgery, there are a few things you should know to expect after your surgery. Keep reading to learn what to expect after cataract eye surgery.

It is not an overnight procedure or stay. Your surgery will last about 30 minutes and after waiting for about 30-40 minutes after surgery, you will be able to go home the same day.

Your eyes have been through a lot and they need a break. Because of this, you can expect your surgeon to tell you to wear an eye patch overnight. You’ll also need to take eye drops, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatories. This will last for about three to four weeks depending on your doctor’s regimine.

There are some activities you’ll want to avoid following your surgery. Activities like lifting weight, bending, high-impact activities, swimming, and applying eye makeup should be avoided for at least one to two weeks.

There are some activities you don’t have to avoid and can resume as normal. These include watching tv, reading, being on the computer, and walking around.
