One of the things that you might see in an ear examination, is the use of a tuning fork. The tuning fork is put on the middle of the patient’s forehead, and they have to say if they hear it louder in one ear. This helps the doctor is testing the strength of both ears in comparison to each other. If only one ear can hear the fork, that might indicate that one ear is functioning better.

Another part of the ear examination process, involves the doctor using an otoscope to look into the ear. The otoscope allows the doctor to see inside the ear canal and look for any problems along the way. This also allows the doctor to get a look at the eardrum.

Overall, there are a lot of different things that a doctor will do in an ear examination. Each test that the doctor gives works to find problems in many different areas of the ear.
