Except for those who choose to have their heads fully shaved, all adults have a head of hair, and this hair is often a major facet in that person’s self-image and even their self-esteem. Society often calls for soft, shiny, luxurious hair that is done in current trends, and men and women alike care deeply about their hair. Women often dye it and visit hair salons for curling or perms, and women’s hairstyles have a rich variety that may change from one decade another, such as the classic Farrah Fawcett look of the 1970s or the poofy, curly hair of the 1980s. Men, too, care about their hair, and men may cut it or comb it into different styles and even use hair gel to make it stand upright. Together with their facial hair, men will use many grooming products to look their best. But unfortunately, a full head of hair as a natural time limit, and over time, nearly all men and some women will start to get bald spots as their hair falls out, and many people consider such baldness or hair thinning to be unattractive and something to be avoided. For this reason, hair loss is often taken seriously, and hair care products and medical methods such as hair transplant surgery or hair replacement methods have been developed.
Adults and Bald Spots
Most men and some women will deal with hair thinning as they age, and some people may start to lose their hair sooner than others, but by certain ages, most men have started to lose their hair. In fact, male pattern baldness is very common, occurring among nearly 95% of men, and such men often turn to hair restoration to deal with this. By age 35, some two out of three men will experience some hair loss, and by age 50, nearly 85% of men will have significantly thinning hair. At any given time, nearly 35 million men are experiencing hair loss, and nearly 21 million women are experiencing it, too. Most people will have hair loss continue in a 20-year phase, and the Norwood Scale has since been formulated to track the severity of a person’s hair loss. Type I is minimal hair loss, all the way yup to Type VII, or the most advanced hair loss.
Hair restoration such as hair transplant procedures are thus popular to help reverse this trend, and there is plenty of demand for hair restoration methods today. Many surveyed adults have reported that hair loss is a source of great frustration and anxiety to them, and they do not like their appearance as hair falls off of their head and bald patches appear. In fact, some surveyed adults reported that they would spend nearly their entire life savings to get a full head of hair again, and some surveyed adults even said that they would prefer a fully restored head of hair over money or friends. This is where hair restoration comes in. While there is no “magic potion” restore all lost hair, today’s hair replacement and hair restoration methods may come close, and they prove popular among many patients who visit clinics for hair.
Hair Restoration
A person who is experiencing unwanted hair loss can look up local hair treatment clinics and choose one to visit, and if they find a place with fair prices and staff they feel comfortable around, the patient may opt for hair restoration. This often involves the follicular unit extraction method, or FUE. What is this? FUE describes how hair naturally grows in units of one to four hair strands, and these follicular units are carefully removed along with the skin during a minimally invasive procedure at a hair restoration clinic. Doctors will remove hair in small groups across the head and place them in bald spots to erase them, and the hair will be arranged so that it flows smoothly. This does not add hair to the head, but it can remove bald patches and proves popular today. Afterwards, only mild symptoms such as itching or minor bleeding of the scalp may e expected for a few days. This method does not even create scars on the scalp.
